What is diabetes?
Type 2 diabetes occurs when the body doesn’t produce enough insulin to function properly, or the body’s cells don’t react to insulin. This means that glucose stays in the blood and isn’t used as fuel for energy.
What are the dangers with having type 2 diabetes?
Diabetes can cause serious long-term health problems, such as vision loss, most cases of kidney failure and lower limb amputations. People with diabetes are up to five times more likely to have cardiovascular disease (such as a stroke) than those without diabetes. Diabetes decreases life expectancy by 5-10 years. According to the World Health Organisation, diabetes is the 4th leading cause of death in Europe. One of the major causes of diabetes is obesity. Cyprus has one of the highest European incidence rates for obesity.
How has this taken place?
With alarming speed a high percentage of the Cypriot population have changed their diet from healthy, freshly cooked fresh produce to eating high levels of refined carbohydrates and saturated fat and not eating enough fruits and vegetables. Fast food and soft drinks high in sugar are also greatly contributing to this problem.
More and more people work in offices instead of working on the land. They drive, use computers and play computer games. So this lack of movement must to be compensated with daily exercise. Studies have shown that just 30 minutes of moderate exercise a day, five days a week is enough to promote good health and reduce the chance of developing type 2 diabetes.
How can Cambridge Weight Plan assist people with type 2 diabetes?
When a client choses to follow a Cambridge Weight Plan, they will be wholly or partly be eating Cambridge meal replacements. Each meal contains one third of the daily vitamins and minerals required by the body to be healthy. Overweight people and those with diabetes, are very deficient of nutrients because they have been following a very unhealthy diet.
Cambridge Weight Plan is clinically proven to help restore blood sugar to a normal level and restore the body to good health. When a client is on a low calorie Cambridge Step (800 calories) they are following a program of 3 Cambridge meals, such as porridge, spaghetti, risotto, soups, shakes, chocolate bars etc and one conventional meal which includes fish or chicken. The psychological benefit is that they do not need to buy snacks and keep coming into contact with food, so that they are less likely to cheat and habitually snack. This Step also encourages ketosis to take place, which burns only fat during weight loss, as opposed to fat, muscle and bone on other diets.
Obese people generally carry a large amount of abdominal fat, indicating that the organs are covered in fat, which increases the risk of life threatening diseases, such as Type 2 Diabetes. By burning fat and reducing fat around the abdomen, not only are these risks reduced but the body is restored to functioning properly again, so that people with Type 2 diabetes may even have their condition reversed. This is a very common result when people no longer require medication to control their blood sugar. Once the client has reached their goal weight the Cambridge Consultant educates the client as to how to eat healthily and keep to the correct portion size, for long term weight maintenance, and so that they are no longer at risk of developing Type 2 again.
Thousands of clients worldwide, who have previously been suffering from Diabetes Type 2 have greatly benefited from using Cambridge Weight Plan as their weight loss solution.
